Abstract

|
In the previous communication, authors had studied the relation between pyocyanin production and oxidase formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it was found that the production of pyocyanin and oxidase are paralleled on the nutrient agar, but inhibted in media containing reducing agents.
In the present report, authors report the effects of antibiotics and enzyme inhibitors on pyocyanin and cytochrome oxidase produciton of Ps. aeruginosa.
The results are as follopws:
1. Of the antibiotics tesed, streptomycin and kanamycin markedly enhanced the pyocyanin producion, and erythromycin and Neomycin, on the other hand, inhibit the giment formation on the nutrient agar.
2. All the antibiotics, regardless of cincintration, inhibit the oxidase produciton.
3. KCN inhibit the pyocyanin produciton, while P-nitrophenol inhibit the exidase production in the broth culture.
